Abbreviations Used in Prescription 

The prescription

• Prescription is a written instruction to the pharmacist from a medical practicing, on the medicines to be use by a patient.

• Prescription can be issued by following groups of professional in Sri Lanka.

1.       A medical practitioner registered under the medical ordinance.

2.       A dental surgeon registered under the medical ordinance.

3.       The veterinary surgery registered under the veterinary surgeon and practitioner act. 

Pharmaceutics

•  The various forms in which a pharmacist dispense medicines main be mixtures, lotions, ointment, cream, pastes, tablets, capsules, etc……

• The physician informs the pharmacist his requirements of medicine by means of a prescription.

• The physician and the pharmacist should work very closely with respect to one another saw that the third party who depend on both the patient is benefited to the maximum.

• The physician with all their vast knowledge and experience prescribe the best of medicine for the alleviation of paint suffering of sick, and it is the fore most duty of the pharmacist it dispense these medicine with at most care and skill saw that the patient get the intended results in the best way possible.

Pharmacutics

•  Pharmaceutics involves the art and the science of preparing drugs and pharmaceutical preparation containing drugs.
• As a pharmacist his duties are two role with regard to the preparation of the drugs.    

1.      The preparation of basic drugs such as chemicals and tinctures.
2.      The compounding of these medicines (drugs) in a form suitable to be given to a patient that is dispense. 

What's Pharmacy....?

Is the profession dealing with drugs and preparations containing drugs. It is divided in to five main branches of study.

1.  Pharmaceutics - Is the study of the preparation of drugs and pharmaceutical products containing drugs. 
2. Pharmacognosy -  Is the study of the source of the drugs.
3. Pharmaceutical chemistry - Is the study of the nature and composition of drugs.
4. Pharmacology - Is the study of the action of drugs.
5. Forensic pharmacy - Is the law relating to the sale and handling of poisons and dangerous drugs.
