Ointment
  • Consisted medicament s (dissolve or distributed)  
  • Usually oily preparation 
  • Main containing a surfactant emulsifying agents
  • Easy to wash off than ointment
  • Use as emollient of protects use, drug diversionary
  • Use as antiseptic
  • Local anesthetic
  • Applied with or without massage
  • Prepares by simple mixing or fusion. (Ex: with field’s ointment B.P., Calamine ointment B.P., Sulphide and Salicylic acid ointment B.P. – mixing method ) (Ex: emulsifying ointment B.P., simple ointment, paraffin ointment B.P.)

  • Semi solids emulsion form external use.
  • Aqueous or Oil
  • Use for affection of kin or face
  • Cosmetic and pharmaceuticals
  • Mainly use as emorlienic and protect use and drug delivery. 
  • Use as antiseptic. Ex: antibacterial, anti fungal, anti inflammatory
  • Local anesthetic. Ex: Lignocaine cream 
  •  Local analgesic. Ex:  vintegino 
  •  Astringents Ex: ZnO 
  • Applied with or without massage
  • Prepared general method by trituration or levigation by fusion or molding method 
  •            Preservatives, use freshly boil and cool.
  •  Easy to wash off.
